Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus

In a world filled with distractions, chaos, and uncertainties, it is of utmost importance that we fix our gaze on the one constant source of hope, peace, and salvation: Jesus Christ. The Bible reminds us in Hebrews 12:2, "Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

This scripture serves as a profound reminder of the paramount significance of focusing on Christ in our daily lives. Here are some essential reasons why this practice is pivotal for every believer:

1. The Source of Our Faith: Jesus Christ is not only the author but also the perfecter of our faith. He initiated our faith journey (Rom. 10:17), and He continually refines and strengthens it. When we focus on Him (Col. 3:1-3), our faith deepens, and we become more steadfast in our walk with God.

2. Our Model of Endurance: Jesus endured the cross (Phil. 2:8) for the joy set before Him. He faced unimaginable suffering (Isa. 53) with unwavering determination because of the eternal purpose it served (Jn. 3:16; Col. 1:19-20). When we face trials, we must remember that Christ is our ultimate model of endurance. By fixing our eyes on Him, we can find the strength to persevere.

3. Freedom from Shame: In Christ, we find freedom from shame (Rom. 6:18). He bore our sins on the cross, taking our shame upon Himself. When we fix our gaze on Him, we are reminded that we are forgiven and washed clean by His precious blood. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Rom. 8:1).

4. Access to Divine Power: By fixing our eyes on Jesus, we tap into the boundless power and grace of our Savior. As we align our lives with His will (Mt. 6:33) and seek His guidance (Psa. 25:4-5; Psa. 119:105; Prov. 3:5; Isa. 58:11), we are empowered to overcome challenges and walk in victory.

5. The Ultimate Goal: Our ultimate goal as believers is to be with Christ for eternity. He now sits at the right hand of the throne of God, interceding for us. By focusing on Him, we are reminded of our heavenly citizenship (Phil. 3:20-21) and the glorious promise of spending eternity in His presence.

Let us heed the exhortation found in Colossians 3:2, "Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth." By fixing our gaze on Christ, we set our minds on heavenly things, which bring us peace, hope, and eternal life.

In these challenging times, may we never lose sight of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Fixing our gaze on Him is not merely a suggestion; it is an imperative for our faith and well-being. May we all be encouraged to do so daily.
