Love One Another
Love is a central theme throughout the Bible, and it's a message that God wants us to take to heart. In fact, Jesus Himself said that the greatest commandment is to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Let's dive into some Scripture references highlighting the importance of loving one another.
We find one of the most well-known passages about love in the Bible in 1 Corinthians 13. This chapter describes love as patient, kind, not jealous or boastful, not arrogant or rude, not self-seeking, not easily angered, and not keeping a record of wrongs. It goes on to say that love always protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres. These words remind us that love is both a feeling and a choice to act a certain way toward others.
Another passage that highlights the importance of love is John 13:34-35, where Jesus says, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another." Here, Jesus tells us that our love for one another reflects our love for Him. When we love one another, we demonstrate to the world that we are followers of Christ.
In addition to these well-known passages, the Bible teaches us to love our enemies. In Matthew 5:44, Jesus says, "But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."
